I actually read this about a year ago and I am curious if anyone else has read it or any of Davis’ other works. One River is non-fiction but reads in places like a Indiana Jones type adventure story. The book’s main focus is the telling of the life of Richard Shultes, a famous Harvard botanist. Shultes was Davis’ friend, teacher and mentor. Davis intertwines his own amazing adventures in the amazon with those of Shultes to create a fascinating story on the otherwise boring (for me anyways) topics of botony and anthropology. Much of this excitement is due to the constant first hand accounts of their experiences sampling traditional ‘drugs’ used by the native tribes they encountered. Anyways I recommend it to anyone looking for something different to read. It would be of special interest to anyone with a background in botony, anthropology, or drugs for that matter.
