I agree, this book is sometimes very dry and detached.

But it’s really grown on me. I think Joyce is truly amazing in that his works reward repeated readings, and offer something new each time. He wrote of the “epiphanies” in life, those things that we don’t think about but truly represent the essence of humanity. It’s little things in his writing that get me. It’s not as if he’s telling a great story, he’s just WRITING.

I’ll stop now, but I could talk about this book all night long.
