i’m working through the unabridged journals myself. i hate to be another cliche female collegian, but i definitely am able to relate with plath. i’ve always been unable to find my niche, leaving me to relate with a character of sylvia plath meets lisa simpson. i must confess envy when it comes to both her writing and her work ethic. were these lucid thoughts a stream of conciousness or instead are they a product of the perfectionist Smith girl? either can be true. i’d very much like to catch a glimpse of the real manuscripts, although i know that the unabridged journals are held to the highest level of accuracy, footnoting any phrases crossed out or rewritten and even including her sketches and doodles. we can only ask that same old question- what else could this brilliant woman have produced had her life not had such a tragic and early end?
