I saw the movie first before I received the book as a gift. I loved the movie, I think your phrase, “visual richness of the film” is right on track. I was mesmerized by the colors, the changing garden in her home and how it bloomed or languished in harmony with the events in her life, the beads that she wore (of course, I would notice that), the costumes, the performances of the actors and the trick with her becoming her art and how the special effects of that were shown…all of it was stunningly portrayed and very close to the events in Frida’s (her name was actually Frieda but she changed it from the german spelling of her father) and Diego’s life.

I was hesitant when I first heard that Selma Hayek was going to act in this role…I didn’t think she had the breadth to do it and so many other actresses had wanted to do this one…but I was wrong…she was Frida…she did a damn fine job and it struck me even more so after I read the book.

Yes…I loved the film and can understand how so many are facinated by the woman and her art…and her life lived with so much passion.
