Anybody ever hear of Wulf Zendik? He’s not strictly a Beat writer, but he wrote a great book during that time called “A Quest Among the Bewildered.” The book’s set both on the Left Bank and in Hollywood, and depicts Zendik’s life during that time. On a much broader scale, it’s also a great rundown of the insane inner core of modern culture. Zendik knew Ginsberg, Corso, Vali Meyers, and all of them appear in “Quest,” but the book is definitely his own, charting the beginnings of his artistic life and his lifelong search for honesty and integrity. I just recently finished the book, and it’s lyrical, intense and wise beyond any reasonable expectations. I got my copy on Amazon.
