i have approximately a bazillion writers that i love…but my favorites are kerouac and gibran. i am always surprised when i speak of gibran how many people don’t know about him! just wanted to spread the word! i know many of us who post write poetry (like me!) so here is an excerpt from one of his prose poems creatively called “The Poet” found in “The Treasured Writings of Kahlil Gibran”:
~
This is the poet-who asks naught of
Humanity but a smile.
This is the poet-whose spirit ascends and
fills the firmament with beautiful sayings;
Yet the people deny themselves his radiance

How long shall they ignore those who enable
Them to see the beauty of their spirit,
Symbol of peace and love?

Poet, you are life of this life, and you have
Triumphed over the ages despite their severity.

Poet, you will one day rule the hearts, and
Therefore, your kingdom has no ending.

Poet, examine your crown of thorns; you will
Find concealed in it a budding wreath of laurel.
~
where the … is, i omitted some stanzas. just to give you a taste of what he’s like. i’m interested to hear what people think or if there is someone else who loves his work, too! peace.
