i once read a book by Toby Litt called “beatniks” & in it his main character says near the beginning something like “i had been into the Beats & all that briefly, when i was about 16, but then i got into Rimbaud, Rilke, Dickinson & Bronte – the originals. Kerouac i’d thought, was just boy’s stuff…” Whilst i’m not sure i totally agree with the character’s put down of the Beats, it can’t be denied that Rimbaud is fantastic!
