While those serialized books aren’t as good as some of the others, I always thought they were just fine simply because a lot of young kids aren’t enthused about reading, and if they can read those serialized books, at least they’re reading something. I read some of them…Sweet Valley High, Nancy Drew…ugh. But I read Roald Dahl, Beverly Cleary, Dr. Seuss, Judy Blume, Lewis Carrol, etc. along with it, so I don’t think it did any harm. Hey, if it gets kids to read, it’s a good thing. I’ve heard the same things about Harry Potter…about how it’s not “real fantasy,” and whatnot…but my little brother hated books until he read those. And now he reads a lot more. So that’s my opinion, anyway.
