I agree with you on the sports guy, sometimes he’s hilarious, but sometimes his pieces fall flat. It partly has to do with the subject matter for me. I’m not really into his Vegas pieces, or his wrestling or fighter articles. I think his basketball columns are terrific though.

I confess to a bias with him because he’s a lifelong Celtic fan and, before his incarnation as a columnist for espn, he had his own thing called the Boston Sports Guy (on Geocities, I think). As I’m a longtime resident of that “liberal, democratic, Hahvud” state, I identified with his allegience to the Celtics and the “Basketball Jesus”, Larry Bird.

I also confess to not reading Whitlock, but will start to now, based on your comments. Guess I outa’ pay a little more attention to Hunter’s column too (except, again, the gambling thing doesn’t do it for me and I know that’s one of Hunter’s pet subjects).
