poetics of jack kerouac

Did Jack Kerouac every try to take a poem and rewrite it a number of different ways. I think he may have referred to the style as jazz poetry possibly. A girl I met on a train ride one time was telling me about this but I can’t remember much about the conversation. I’m in the process of putting together a manuscript and I am trying to incorporate the idea into my work. Does anyone know what I’m trying to talk about or know where i can find more information on the subject. Maybe this was something many beat writers did.
