Tolkein — freak of nature

So I finished The Return of the King, I thought I should read it before the movie comes out. Here is my summation of Tolkein and his world. The guy was a freaking genius. I now know why there have been so many Tolkein freaks over the decades. To create such a complex world is staggering. His appendices, in and of themsleves, are amazing. This guy created thousands of years of complex history which is all interwoven to some extent in the lord of the rings. I’m not a big fan of fantasy or sci fi, but you have to give credit where credit is due. If there was any other author who created such a huge, compelling, complex world, (s)he is unknown to me.
