did not the greeks usually address problems of fate and
responsibility? Is an understanding or appreciation of Oedipus just aesthetic? Or Macbeth and countless other tragedy–doesn’t Aristotle in his Poetics argue that drama should be based on serious (e.g. philosophical , historical) topics and that the mechanics of the plot are superior to lyrical factors? Thus it would seem that a successful work of lit appeals to more than aesthetics…as any reading of say naturalism or realism would indicate… so its both form (aesthetics, execution) and content, and content is political, ethical, technological etc.
