a silly question, but I just have to hash it out.

I was at a poetry reading the other night, and there were some people there that snapped their fingers during parts of the poem that they liked (ala, the sterotype beat cliche that you see on TV). The hostess made a comment that that action is actually considered to be an insult in some cultures. Which caused a really funny melee between people who like to snap and those who thought it was just funny to argue it. My question is, that regardless of what you personally think of the practice, is it actually insulting in some cultures to do that? I’m really curious now, maybe I should get a life and start watching more TV.
