I Will

Inhaling slowly, his lip curved up
forming the smile that would
forever be stuck.
To his face in his endless dream
of a world which wasn't so harsh,
and hardly as mean.

As was the rumor,
came glimpses of the past;
His first bike ride, followed by last.
He himself being torn
away from his Mom,
as one man set off
the treacherous bomb.

"Honey, please, don't leave; don't go!
Oh please, Dear Son, I beg you NO!
Stay with me
just a little while more--
Don't enter yet, that shiny white door!
You MUST come back,
there's so much to learn!!
Why, you have yet
16, that you shall turn!!
I'll get you that car,
the one that you loved,
and have painted on it
a slender white dove.
Son, this world is not bad,
why must you leave?
We could move to a paradise,
and wouldn't have to believe---"

"Mom" he tried, "Mom, it's okay.
I'll be fine.
At the most, just sick for the day.
Don't worry about me, Mom,
I PROMISE I will!
Mom...Mom...I will...I will......"

Letting go, his lip curved up
forming the smile that would
forever be stuck.
To his face in his endless dream
of a world which wasn't so harsh,
and never as mean.
