Sweet Sixteen

Posted to Action Poetry

have you ever lied
about your age
to experience
what a sixteen year old
shouldn't?

Driving too fast
in a car that isn't yours
music pounding
too loud for your ears

Dizzying from liquid
that Big Brother
says you can't drink
and inhaling thick sweet smoke
that makes your pink lungs
beg for mercy

Have you ever walked the white lines
layed on black tar
in the dark of the night
laughing so hard your vision becomes blurry,
knowing when you get home
you're going to be
in even more trouble
than when you left that night

Only sixteen can do that
Only sixteen can be born
into an adult world
seeing through children's eyes
innocence lost
in the heat of a young summer
