misspent youth
outspoken but no one's listening
provocative but just ignored
everyone's so damn oblivious
and damn, i'm getting bored
i tried hard to break away from
all that they wanted me to be
a schoolchild carefully screened
so proper and uniformly
out the window went convention
'cause i never quite fit the mold
but i had the conviction to question
value- and thought-control
eventually i thought it best
to disregard my feelings and mind
great spirits can get broken down
by decorous chains that bind
but now i'm not a child
who thinks it's fine to "stay"
i'm not at all afraid to think
and say what i want to say.
