sirens

wish what you want
and dear, dream what you’ll be
(and wouldn’t it be funny if you became me)

watch out for those strangers
their kindness can kill
but when you’ve started stealin their bags
you’re written out of mamma’s will

and tell me about that trip that you went on
the concert, the people, the free drinks,
more drinks

you seem to keep tellin yourself you can stop
‘i can stop the madness’
but who are you foolin
we’ve heard it before

when will you clear your head
when will you finally hear what we’ve said
all this time, for all it’s worth
just try to listen

damn, those sirens are loud
don’t you get sick of them saying
‘that could’ve been you’

you know you do
