and one day i'll be old

Posted to Poetry

And one day I’ll be old
and this face
and these hands
will remind me that all
on this planet must pass

as the green bitter mold
as the colors of dreams

as spring destroys cold
so will life destroy me

softest skin will succumb
to the wrinkles of age

gentlest eyes will unfocus
sweet prayers on the page

perfect hearing will go
far away to those worlds:
where it’s tiresome, yet living
in its own ancient world

and deep wisdom will settle
on my shoulders with time
and my heart like rose petals
will shiver and die

and a final sweet tear
with incomparable bliss

will stream down wrinkled cheeks
wiping out all of this!
