ham on rye

Posted to Poetry

I want more of your delicious thoughts—I’ve been hungry
For almost a year.

I raid kitchens across the country
But you still make the best ham on rye.
You laid it on thick, meat sweet and never stale. You took
Your time and never forgot the mustard;
Always thoughtful.

You served it on a silver platter…ignoring the ziplock bags.
True, it didn’t stay fresh, but OH! the presentation; beautiful
Words drenched with your lust, whipped up with
Thoughts of me? My mouth watered and dripped in anticipation.
The things you said, the way you moved.

I’ve tasted love. I should have chewed slower.
