if it's technicalities that interest me, Dharma Bums would not be one of my favs. However, it is the brute honesty of the novel. Kerouacs emotions spew forth like a frothy guiness, and once you sip it up and let it settle, the satisfaction is unparalleled. Three things always come to mind when I read Dharma Bums:
1. Idealistic happiness shadowed by honesty
2. uninhibited frienship (yabum, nudity-realizing beast nature)
3. third and definitely not least, coffee. next time you read DB, count how many times Kerouac makes a reference to coffee. It is one of his security foods/beverages no doubt.
All in all, a pleasant read that one can finish in the course of a rainy day.
