My Opinion

Posted to Poetry and Politics

I don't believe in a world without conflict...conflict is human, it's something that comes along with individuality and free will, but what I think that should happen is to try to solve the conflict earlier on...if people had reacted earlier in the 1930's, the second World War might have been avoided, the same with the conflicts now in the Middle-East...

The question is of course, can art (and on this site poetry and literature in particular) help us out? They might, but to me, every form of art is a mixture of form and content...a poem without any eye for form and style is an essay or a pamflet, and a poem without a content is just some stylistical nonsense...

This goies for every form of art, I think...so we can exporess how we feel about something, but poetry and literature have also an aesthetic function, otherwise it sometimes even becomes pathetic, all the crying to the moon and wailing about misery, but it ought to have some style...it's like the difference between a typical Hollywood movie about war with a lot of pompous music, melodramatic acting and a thick layer of morality underneath it versus something like "Apocalypse Now", which is also stylistically a great film, and therefore (once again, in my opinion) art!
