When the cat gets up and stretches
His thin feathered branches
He wakes the heavy air.
He shakes his drowsy head.
Memory flees from his eyes
So he plays it by ear
To where he knows
Food is kept.
The dogs are stuck
On each other's comfort.
The warm-air blanket peels
And they run into the coldness.
And the rabbit's scared eyes
Are frozen white outside.
