I read salparadise's answer to your question. I hadn't been aware that there was a film of Bulgakov's book, but now that my interest in piqued, I will have to snoop around imdb.com and see what's afoot.
I don't speak Russian, though I once tried to learn. I currently live in the middle of the Richmond District in San Francisco, which is heavily populated with Russian Jews. A friend of mine 'turned me onto' "The Master and Margarita" about five years ago.
