try all of his stuff. plays and prose as well. my favorite plays are: Godot, Endgame, Act without words I, Krapp's last tape.
He's got a great prose book called More Pricks than Kicks.
It's certainly open to debate, but i don't think Godot is about hope. There's some really great criticism by Martin Esslin about Godot and all the theatre of absurd writers. I've never seen the play, though, only read it, which lends only a narrow perspective on the piece. i wanna see some guys in prison do it. i hear that's the best way.
