Big Daddy Roth

Posted to WritersAndGenres

This from Rolling Stone Magazine: "Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was, as his name suggests, the seminal figure in the great car-crazed style revolt of the sixties. As Tom Wolfe once wrote, Roth was "the Salvador Dali of the movement." Roth died of a heart attack on april 4th, 2001, at the age of 69. I remember he designed all those "WEIRDO" model cars & dragsters in the sixties - hot rod cars with crazy looking bug-eyed, snaggle-toothed "weirdo's" driving them. I put together a few of those model cars when I was a kid. Big Daddy Roth was sort of made to look like a "Beatnik" by his promotors; the goatee, the top-hat & cape, the showman. He was a cool icon to us Mad Magazine hipster fringe-meisters!
