The sad thing

Posted to Poetry and Politics

is is that we're always fighting for the Hitlers, the Mussolinis, the Bushes and Nixon's of the world. the Oil executives. They all start these goddamn wars, but do they ever pick up a gun? No, they send out the poor kid who's just trying to pay his way through college on a GI Bill or some youngster who's head they've filled full of vitriolic bullshit. Then once the war is over they resume shatting upon us, pandering for our votes and dollars with some trinkets. And we go along with it, every goddamn time. As Bette Middler sang "From a distance, you look like my friend, even though we are at war". Ah, good old Bette.
