it seems to me

that even if there is some innate desire to do good within us all, there exists a counteracting desire to meet only one's own needs. mtmind had a good point about money and learned had a good point about how we have allowed government to shoulder most of the responsibility doling out benefits to the international needy (and the needy within our own borders). but there have been institutions developed so that those who desire to help have an organized way of doing it (if this is good or bad i don't know) including the well-known red cross, amnesty international, the peace corps, and americorps. if it seems that most tend to their "what's in it for me?" mindframe, it is hard to blame them i guess because of the world we live in. if you want to make a change SAMO! do so. the only thing stopping you is you.
