i learned early
that fathers lie

mine did on sixteen
different occasions

that smashed sirens
loud, and burned

"i promise shannon,
i'll never drink again"

"daddy never meant to
hurt you"

"hell baby, it's only
one drink"

he should have
made himself clear

admitted he was a
drunk and be done

with it. explained
he had no control

over his wagging
hateful tongue

and course language.
he should of explained

that everything is not
black and white

that there is always
room for Gray.

i would have been better
prepared, for his weight

deceitful suffocation.
