self portrait

twice refined,
black and sealed over
spun on an ebony lathe
specked with opal,night gems
spittle against velvet walls
stars in moisture
blinking back
defiance

huddled together
we lean closer
the barrel spills
gasoline fumes
above the rusted rim
and echoes air
sucked from this
tomb

self inflicted
penance Catholic
and kneeling
only say the word
and I shall be
healed

a stained glass
windshield
rose road
driving
in chasm streets
wipers against
fractured moonlight
splintered
all the traffic lights
are red
at the wheel
of this coffin
