kate #25

Posted to Action Poetry

the leaves fall around me
in a crown of rubies speckled with lively canaries.
how i wandered here
i will never know.
a map of my longing
took wings
riding the electric blue wind.
autumn cradles my heart
in a duet of warm soft hands
(i need nothing more
than i have
at this tiny moment.)
at six o six in the evening
the iowa sun
begins to kiss the horizon of fading green
and my eyes shut
smelling your breath
on my shoulder.
i remember loneliness,
the kate of so long ago
and beg your forgiveness
for not knowing
you were so soon
and so beautiful.
