we swore a hundred contradictions,
and tangled our mouths
around obscenities
rising higher than ourselves.
we wrapped our tongues
around bitterness,
dug up old graves,
picked the secrets from our fingernails,
told stories that should have been
long forgotten.

our souls are halfway
between solitude and the grave.
we are lost
and sometimes we wonder,
why the moon casts its love
upon the ocean,
and why we can't even
love ourselves.

i wrap three fingers
around a single curl,
take the feathers from your name,
trace your hipbones with my eyes.
we're both lacking self worth,
and we're both trying to find it
in the creases and scars
of one another.
