back in my school district they had a thing called mg
standing for mentally gifted (this term is a little insulting, I think, to everyone involved). some parents wanted their kids in the program so bad they pestered the district until their kids were entered. they performed those psychological tests on the kids back in kindergarten seeing how well they understand logic and puzzles and imaginiation...(how well do these tests work?) and sectioned the kids off accordingly. once in mg, a child was entitled to miss one day of class per wk. the program had extra funds to use on things like computers: one for each child to play on/ learn on.
