deadly?

Posted to What Are You Reading?

I have no idea what you mean. It was cheap, safe, enjoyable, educational, life-enriching and the conduit to many, many exciting adventures.

Intimidating? Can't see why. There are practical difficulties at first - really just 'cos things move more slowly (it's less of a convenience culture) and because of the language barrier. But compared to when I was first there in 1993 (no supermarkets or any other self-service shops, no credit cards, no bank ATM machines, everything closed all day Sunday and half of Saturday), it's way easier and more familiar now. I went native myself, living amongst Poles and, after a couple of years, not speaking English at weekends. If you want to learn you can. I miss it in a lot of ways.
