i don't think kerouac wrote anytihng without the public in mind. and i agree with you that juvenalia is just that, as well as being utterly fascinating. i like to read what people wrote at a young age. it makes me feel better about what i'm writing now.

as for skeletons in the closet, i do think that they are all fair. if i can give the world my writing, why shouldn't i be able to give them my life, which is infinitely less important, too?
