Dreams and Literature

Posted to WritersAndGenres

Would anyone out in Writers and Genres Land like to post a comment about the uses and meanings of dreams in literature?

Aside from the obvious uses of dreams, as in Calderon de la Barca's "La Vida Es Suena" or Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress", what have you to say of dreamlike narratives by Kafka and even Allen Ginsberg, whose "Howl" is rather dreamlike?
