Kiss
--------
I cannot promise you forever. No forever can exist.
Smoky memories I'll offer. A kiss, my friend, is just a kiss.
Summer burns, turns autumn falling, winter ices hearts with snow.
I cannot promise you forever. Now is all we have to know.
I cannot give assured predictions for tomorrow's headline news.
Bombs are dropped quite often causing death to innocents, the dues
Paid with blood. A client hires you then the layouts often change –
Copy's written, text revisions, Love invests in stock exchange.
Plant a flower. Pull a weed. Everything that lives will die.
Love's a rose with thorny stem. Stick a needle in my eye.
Once I had the faith of promise, doubting not eternity.
Now, I worship eyes of Thomas. Forever is absurdity.
Proofs of theorems, postulates, axioms, arithmetic –
Simple math's a true truth serum. One plus one, synthetically.
Life's a miracle, some tell me. Maybe. Or an accident.
Lasting Love forever growing, advertised indemnity.
I cannot promise you forever. No forever can exist.
Let's just laugh, enjoy, the task of Love, a document
Of mist. Missed we'll be when revelries speak history.
You have been kissed.
