Handke, Matthiessen, etc.
I know, no one picked up on Handke. I've not read anything by him, although I recall trying to some 15 years ago before I was capable of appreciating him. I should try again, particularly given the fine posting you left on him.
I hesistate to say this but I tried watching the Wim Wenders film "Wings of Desire" which was co-written by Handke. Alas, I didn't have the patience for it and turned it off after about 20 minutes. Have you seen the film? Did I make a mistake?
Interesting that you liked the film version of "At Play in the Fields of the Lord" - I didn't like it at all! I thought it fell apart under the weight of its aimlessness. To me, it seemed very unrealized. A disservice to the book. Which surprised me bacause Barbenco is an accomplished director and "The Kiss of the Spider Woman" was excellent.
As for what gets posted and ignored on this board, I tend to think that our fellow litkick folks here are a little narrow in their reading focus (although, what should we expect, this is basically a Beat board, no?).
