good sources on the art of vignette writing?

I am looking for some direction in the method of vignette writing. I realize that I don't quite have the patience and concentration to write short stories and came to the happy conclusion that, perhaps, vignette writing would better suit my love of condensed story-telling, painting, while still maintaining an element of poetry.

Would any of you have some suggestions on resources I might consult to learn more about what vignette writing is considered to be, how it is "done" and what guidelines are involved in its structure? I would appreciate any literary examples of writers who have successfully composed such pieces.
