Snyder was born in 1930, which means he will turn 73 this year. I heard him read in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago. He was in fine form and was looking fit and relaxed. Among other things he read a short poem titled "Climbing Matterhorn 31 Years Later" and prefaced it with reference to "the French Canadian writer Jean Louis Kerouac" and his book The Dharma Bums. The poem goes something like: "Range after range after range of mountains/Year after year after year/I am still in love."
