...the media doesn't advertise more often about how Saddam destroys incoming food so that he can perpetuate the starving Iraqi bit. If the media is afraid the story isn't based in fact, then that would sort of destroy the tenet that government influences the media. If they believe the story, then perhaps they just don't find it newsworthy. I don't know.

This is probably worthy of a different thread, but as I recall, South Africans wanting freedom wanted the economic sanctions against them to force the assholes to effect change. The Burmese (sounds better than Myanmarese, doesn't it?) freedom movement is practically BEGGING for sanctions and embargoes. I had always felt that this was a great way to peacefully effect change, since the embargoes/sanctions of these types rarely limited foods/medicines.
