joual french

"Ti" is actually "petit", which, in Quebecois French gets shortened to "p'tit" (with last "t" silent of course).

reminds me of a story i heard on CBC once, Louden Wainright and his wife, Kate MacGarrigle, went to Lowell to see JK's grave, and Wainright couldn't understand why they called him Ti Jean ("tie-jeen"). but then, he also didn't understand why canadians would buy "raisin" juice ("jus de raisin").
