If you are looking at terrorism vs. terror
some people say that is actually a euphemism which is strange because most euphemisms are used to weaken the fear they can cause the general listner or reader. Terrorism, however, works as a euphemism by drawing a separating line between us and them thus suggesting we are not like them and they are not like us. I just thought this was interesting observation. According to everything I've read about this the first use of Terrorist as a recognizable euphemism was during the Oklahoma City bombing and oddly enough it was an American which is "us" but by terming him as a Domestic Terrorist softened the blow of it being an American Citizen.
