(I'm about to run out the door, so this will be shorter than I'd like. a friend of mine wrote an eloquent essay on this that I'll repost if I can find it)
While it's certainly not the Freemasons or the Illumanati, there _is_ and entrenched structure that has probably been in existence since the first breath of consciousness burned in a Wo/man's mind.
That is, there is always a ruling power elite and then there's the rest of us, to put it oversimply. I'm no marxist, let's get that straight. But this is the way I see things. There are many levels, and in America, god bless it, you can move up or down the ladder as you choose. And when you move to the top, you can choose to go your own way, or you can choose to be a part of the 'conspiracy.' In fact, you choose to be a part of it or not at any level.
Why do we let 'them' divide us against each other, using religion or nationality or the color of one's skin? why do we fight for them? Why do we believe we are fighting for ourselves when what we see of the bounties of war is a fraction too small to be measured.

To quote the Beastie Boys:

Now how many people must get killed?
For oil families pockets to get filled?
How many oil families get killed?
Not a damn one so whatÕs the deal?

And to quote Lew Welch:

You can't fix it. You can't make it go away.
I don't know what you're going to do about it,
But I know what I'm going to do about it. I'm just
going ot walk away from it. Maybe
A small part of it will die if I'm not around
feeding it anymore.
