an ancient proverb:

If you wish for peace, prepare for war.

Peace has to be won. This is because there is evil in the world. If there wasn't, then we could all bask in the sun and dance around in fields of flowers, with no smoke in our skies and just love in our eyes. But that's just not the way it is, and it can't ever be that way, because you can't exterminate evil. You just have to stand up to it and fight it back when it appears. So groups of people can bask in the sun with love in their eyes, but Someone will always try to fuck it up for them. Humans are self-interested, vindictive, and violent. (y'know, every one of us has the potential to be Hitler. He was no madman, he knew exactly what he was doing. He was Evil)

And I really don't think that Bush plans on taking Iraq's oil at this stage. It wasn't until the end of the Spanish-American War that it was ever decided to keep Hawaii & the Philipines & Puerto Rico & all that mess. I think Bush is a nice guy (I have other feelings about Mr. Cheney & Mr. Rumsfeld, however). But I fear what he will do once Iraq is in his hands. I fear he will change.

Power corrupts.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

And Bush sure ain't no philosopher-king.
