for anyone who read the posts by Staunch Conservative
I do not know if someone wrote the posts made under that name as a joke or whether someone wrote them in earnest. In either case, I would like to say a few things about Christianity.
The initial post mentioning Christianity as well as many of the reactions to that post disturbed me. I am myself a Christian, and I am currently employed as a missionary. Before you condemn me for trying to convert people, please realize that is not the nature of my work. I am involved in community outreach, primarily providing a two month long summer day camp so that children in low income areas have a place to go during the day. We don't knock on doors, we don't try to make people change, we only try to provide what is needed. And, as much as I would like to see the children I work with and their families in the church, I know that most of them will not come. My duty is only to help them in whatever capacity I can, not to cram my religion down their throats by shaming or scaring them.
The arrogant and inflammotary statements made by Staunch Conservative are in no way representative of the Christian faith as a whole.
Also, I would like to clarify something. I do not place my faith in a book. I place my faith in God. The Bible is essentially a collection of writings by various people about their impressions of God.
At its best, Christianity is a religion with love, patience, and acceptance as its base. At its worst, it is a crutch for misogyny, bigotry, and hatred. Please do not look at the most distorted example as the only example or as the primary aim of my religion.
I am happy to discuss my faith with anyone if you are interested, anyone who has engaged in religious banter with me on the Flame Wars board will probably confirm this.--violet9ish
