You will never get all ULYSSES
so don't feel bad when you don't get all of it. I shouldn't have said never, the thousandth time you may get the last drop out of it. I'm currently reading it myself. I sometimes have to break away from it and read some lighter material. I took a Joyce class last semester and my Prof admitted she didn't understand all of it even as the resident Joyce Expert. My current reading strategy is reading Cliffnotes of each chapter before tackling the real chapter. This gives me a since of what I'm looking for while I read I consult Annotated Ulysses by Gifford to help in anything beyond plot such as Irish history, foreign languages, and the sort. It's slow going but I get so much out of it.
It's hard but it's great, goodluck.
