Slaves of New York, and Hooking Up
Slaves of New York has always been one of my favorite books. Reading it again, I find it still relevant. It reminds me of what is happening in many parts of the U.S., especially cities, escalating rent prices causing people to live in certain, funky ways. It's by Tama Janowitz. It was based on the 80's, and it's fiction, but I think it is still relevant today. Hooking Up, by Tom Wolfe is a welcome surprise. He covers so many subjects, it seems like stream of consciousness; it's interladen with both real facts and his amusing opinions. Some topics cover the beginnings of big computer companies, and the changing scene in dating and young adults. It's just great. I highly recommend it.
