Posted to What Are You Reading? which discusses Cavafy et al. as well as more modern writers like Vlavianós and Patilis. (Only Greek-language writers, not those I think of as also Greek writers such as Lawrence Durrell, writing in an English deeply imbued with Greece).
I do not yet speak Greek, at least not enough to appreciate the authors in their originals, so what I say about them should be treated with caution. But Greek authors from Homer on have had more impact on me than those of any other language.
