Down and Out
I have copy which I am reading for first time. Blair had a very difficult time, and his descriptions of Paris poverty are concise, unsentimental, occasionally humorous. The oblivious nature of business people and the wealthy are effectively presented--I think he writes in a manner similar to Hemingway, but with a bit more depth.
I 've read 1984, Shooting an Elephant and Politics and English Language--ever seen Animal Farm?
