love fante. i was so happy when i was introduced to “wait until spring, bandini”. then i picked up “ask the dust”, and had to then go through all of his others… but i don’t think i’ve read “the road to los angeles”… thanks for the insight- i will have to pick it up. i liked your analysis also- “fluid and self depricating without being pathetic or embarassing”… that’s very well said, and accurate for fante…
